The BMW 340i sits at the sharp end of the 3 Series range — a 3.0-litre turbocharged B58 inline-six producing 326 horsepower in factory trim, wrapped in one of the most driver-focused saloon bodies BMW has ever built. This Stage 1 chip tuning project pushed it well past the 400 HP mark, and it did so with a detail worth highlighting: the stock high-pressure fuel pump was left completely untouched.

The Numbers

Two runs, back-to-back on our certified VT Dyno 6.4. Red is the factory map: 326.0 BHP @ 5383 RPM and 485.7 Nm @ 3380 RPM. Green is after Stage 1 remapping — with the stock HPFP: 404.1 BHP @ 6682 RPM and 554.0 Nm @ 3035 RPM. That is a gain of +78.1 HP (+23.9%) and +68.3 Nm (+14.1%). Notice also that the torque peak on the green curve arrives earlier — at 3035 RPM compared to 3380 RPM stock — which means the engine feels stronger sooner, not just faster at the top end. That is the hallmark of properly executed performance chip tuning.

How It Was Done

The "stock HPFP" detail on this project is not a footnote — it is a statement about the quality of the calibration. Many B58 Stage 1 tunes push fuel demand to the edge of what the factory high-pressure fuel pump can reliably supply, which shows up as fuel pressure drop at high RPM and power that does not hold cleanly to redline. Our chip car tuning file was built to extract maximum gain while keeping fuel delivery within the safe limits of the stock pump — which is exactly why the green torque curve above stays flat and consistent all the way through the rev range instead of trailing off at the top.

No bolt-on race chip, no recycled racechip tune. This 340i's ECU was read, fully analysed, and rewritten using bespoke tuning files written in-house. Our chip and tune methodology means every parameter — boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery, torque limiters — is adjusted specifically for this engine's measured baseline and the mechanical constraints of the hardware. The engine chip calibration respects those limits rather than ignoring them, which is the difference between a tune that lasts and one that creates problems six months later.

Stage 1 tuning chip for car applications on the B58 requires no hardware modifications. This chip car transformation is purely software — the 340i remains fully road-legal, passes technical inspection without any issues, and keeps every piece of original hardware in place. The only upgrade is in the calibration.

Why Remapas?

The B58 engine powers a wide range of BMW and Toyota vehicles and has become one of the most tuned platforms in the world. That also means there is an enormous amount of generic, mass-produced calibrations available for it — files written for an average car, not yours. Remapas develops and supplies professional tuning files for this and hundreds of other platforms to workshops across Germany, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Baltics, Malaysia, and beyond. When you bring your car to our facility, that same expertise goes directly into your ECU — measured on our certified dyno, refined against your car's actual output, and verified before you leave. That is what performance chip tuning looks like when it is done seriously.
