The BMW M3 Competition S58 is BMW's most potent road-going straight-six — a hand-assembled, twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre that produces over 500 horsepower in factory trim. But as this project proves, even BMW's flagship M engine has substantial headroom left on the table. Our Stage 1 plus 5th–6th gear chip tuning pushed this car into an entirely different performance category, and every number on the dyno graph backs that up.

The Numbers

The green curve is the factory map, the red is after remapping. Stock, the S58 measured 511.9 BHP @ 6481 RPM and 690.5 Nm @ 4623 RPM on our certified VT Dyno 6.4. Post-tune: 677.6 BHP @ 7530 RPM and 837.8 Nm @ 3570 RPM. That is a gain of +165.7 HP (+32.4%) and +147.3 Nm (+21.3%) — on a car that already had 511 horsepower. The torque improvement arrives earlier in the rev range too, making the car dramatically more responsive in real-world driving, not just at the top of the power band.

How It Was Done

This was not a standard Stage 1 ECU remapping job. Alongside the engine ECU work, this build included a targeted 5th and 6th gear transmission calibration — adjusting shift behaviour, torque limits, and power delivery in the upper gears to make full use of the new engine output. That combined approach is what separates a proper chip and tune from simply flashing a generic map and hoping for the best.

The chip car tuning process started — as it always does at Remapas — with a full baseline dyno run in stock form and a thorough pre-tuning inspection. No plug-and-play race chip, no off-the-shelf racechip tune. The S58's ECU was read, analysed in detail, and rewritten using bespoke tuning files built around this specific car's measured output, condition, and the owner's requirements. Every parameter — boost pressure, fuel delivery, ignition timing, torque limiters — was adjusted individually, not as a package deal.

Getting +165 HP from an engine chip remap alone on a modern BMW M engine requires a level of knowledge that goes far beyond what any bolt-on tuning chip for car can offer. The S58 has sophisticated knock detection, load monitoring, and OBD logging that will flag — and protect against — any aggressive or poorly constructed calibration. Our chip car file had to work with those systems, not around them, which is why the result is safe, stable, and completely transparent to BMW's own diagnostics.

Why Remapas?

Results like these do not happen by accident. Remapas develops and sells professional tuning files to workshops across Germany, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Baltics, Malaysia, and beyond — including tuners who specifically work on BMW M-series platforms. When you bring your car to our facility, you get that same depth of expertise applied directly, on our certified dyno, with our original equipment. This is what performance chip tuning looks like when it is done properly.
